Pudong Airport Hotel Shuttles Compared: Pick-Up Points, Start Times and Which Hotels Need a Booking
Every hotel in this guide outside the terminal complex offers a way to the airport, but the shuttles differ in ways that matter at 5:00 am: some run to a fixed timetable, some go only when a guest has reserved, and one charges. Here they are in order of distance, followed by the hotels where walking replaces the bus.
Fixed-timetable shuttles
Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Shanghai Pudong Airport, 1.3 km. Free, about five minutes, every day from early morning to midnight. Pick-up at Terminal 1 opposite arrivals hall Gate 9 and at Terminal 2 outside the arrivals hall, most recently listed at arrivals hall Gate 27. The hotel asks guests to reserve a seat, and the bus is the busiest at the airport.
Holiday Inn Express Shanghai Pudong Airport, 2.7 km. Free, daily from 9:30 am to 3:30 am on IHG’s current listing, which suits late arrivals and the first departures; earlier timetables started at 5:30 am, so confirm for a flight before 8:00 am.
Holiday Inn Express Shanghai PVG Zhuqiao, 7 km. Free, daily from 4:30 am to 2:45 am, about 15 minutes, the widest window of any shuttle here. Reserve with the desk.
Shuttles that run by reservation
Novotel Shanghai Chuansha, 13 km. Free, on the hour from about 4:00 or 5:00 am, under 30 minutes, booked a day ahead at reception.
Wyndham Shanghai Pudong, 8 km. Free to the airport and to Shanghai Disneyland; guests report the airport run starting at 6:00 am. Confirm times with the hotel.
The Qube Hotel Shanghai Pudong, 10.3 km. Free on the hotel’s own listing, about 10 minutes, reserved through the concierge a day ahead; booking agents publish roughly hourly departures from the hotel between 5:30 am and 9:30 pm with return pick-ups at Terminals 1 and 2, and a Disney shuttle has been listed. Some booking sites list the airport run as chargeable, so check.
Courtyard by Marriott Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone, 23 km. Free, by reservation through the concierge, to Pudong Airport, Disney, Hongqiao and the Bund; about 20 minutes to the terminals.
Paid transfer only
Fuyi Hotel Shanghai International Tourist Resort (formerly UrCove by Hyatt), about 25 minutes. Airport pick-up and drop-off on request for a fee; no free shuttle.
No shuttle needed
The Aerotel Shanghai is inside Terminal 2. The Dazhong Airport Hotel is about six minutes on foot between the terminals and lists a 24-hour shuttle for those who want it; the Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Airport is about ten minutes with covered walkway access and no shuttle at all. For a departure before 7:00 am these three take the shuttle out of the equation.
Tips
Shuttle stops at Pudong are outside the arrivals halls at ground level, not on the departures road above. Have the hotel’s phone number and Chinese name on your phone; if the bus is late, a taxi to any of the airport-side hotels costs 20 to 60 yuan, per our buses and taxis guide. Going to the airport, ask the desk which terminal the bus serves first; a T1 to T2 walk adds 10 to 15 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Pudong Airport hotel shuttle starts earliest?
The Holiday Inn Express Shanghai PVG Zhuqiao lists 4:30 am to 2:45 am, and the Novotel Chuansha runs on the hour from about 4:00 or 5:00 am by reservation. The Ramada Plaza runs from early morning to midnight. For a 6:00 am flight, the walk-in hotels on Yingbin Avenue avoid the question.
Where do hotel shuttles pick up at Pudong Airport?
At marked points outside the arrivals halls. The Ramada Plaza uses the area opposite Gate 9 in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall and Gate 27 in the Terminal 2 arrivals hall; these are the numbered doors along the arrivals halls, not boarding gates. Other hotels give their own gate numbers when you book. Call the hotel from the hall if the bus is not in sight.
Do I need to reserve a hotel shuttle?
For the Novotel, Qube, Wyndham and Courtyard, yes, usually a day ahead through the front desk or concierge. The Ramada Plaza and the two Holiday Inn Express hotels run to a timetable, though the Ramada asks guests to reserve a seat.
