Pudong Airport Day Rooms, Hourly Hotels and Lounges with Showers

A room for a few hours at Pudong used to mean a taxi to a Chuansha hotel and a negotiation. The Aerotel’s opening inside Terminal 2 changed that, and more lounges have opened around it since. Here is how to rest by the hour, sorted by how much of the airport you have to cross.

Hourly rooms inside Terminal 2

The Aerotel Shanghai is on Levels 6 and 7 of Terminal 2, landside, reached by the escalator behind check-in counter G. All 82 rooms are sold by the hour as well as overnight: Private Resting Rooms of 20 to 22 sq.m. for one person with a shower room, Deluxe Doubles with a window, and Premier Doubles and Twins with runway views for families. Rates have started around 60 yuan an hour, with overnight stays from about 480 yuan, and online bookings must be made at least an hour ahead. Showers without a room and luggage storage are sold at the desk.

The catch is immigration. The hotel is before security, so a transit passenger must clear entry into China to reach it. Most nationalities can, under the 24-hour transit exemption or the 240-hour visa-free transit policy; see our visa-free transit guide before you count on it.

The Hub: a landside lounge anyone can buy

The Hub on Level 7 of the Aerotel doubles as a pay-in lounge for non-guests, sold through lounge-pass platforms at about 237 yuan for a visit and listed as open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. It offers set meals, a buffet at selected times, showers, luggage storage and private resting areas. For an arriving passenger with hours to fill before a hotel check-in, or a departing one who checked out early, it is the only lounge at Pudong that does not require a boarding pass.

Airside lounges with showers

In Terminal 2 international departures, the No. 77 China Eastern lounge is operated by Plaza Premium and sells entry to anyone; it has a buffet, a bar, workstations, a nursing room, a relaxation area and shower rooms booked at reception. In the S2 satellite, the No. 170 lounge accepts Priority Pass and American Express Platinum and has showers, which is rare on the satellite side. Airline lounges in T1 (China Eastern’s home) and T2 (Air China, Star Alliance and oneworld carriers) admit premium passengers and status holders.

Lounge entry is typically two to three hours. Beyond that, the free rest zones and pods in our sleeping at Pudong Airport guide cost less than a second lounge visit.

Day use at the nearby hotels

None of the hotels outside the terminal advertises a fixed day-use rate, but the two on Yingbin Avenue, the Dazhong Airport Hotel and the Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Airport, are six to ten minutes on foot and will sometimes sell an early check-in or a late check-out for a fee if rooms are free. Booking a full night at the Dazhong is often cheaper than four hours of pods and lounges, and you get a proper bed and a door you can close.

Free showers and rest seating

If all you need is a wash, the airport’s 11 free shower rooms in the international arrivals and transfer areas of T1 and T2 are open 24 hours, and the rest zones near Gate C92 in T2 and in the satellites have recliners and charging points at no cost.
